OTHER LABOURS

OL1   These gentlemen were miners living in Wellow

OL2   Our road sweepers. Before the days of tarmac the roads must have been the limestone bedrock which would have been continually breaking to dust.

Lousia Steeds' name is on this proprietor's board. The layout and rest of the wording is the same as on the J W Bishop board shown in the High Street series.

OL3   There are those who say that this is the team that built the Fuller's Earth works with each worker sporting a symbol of his trade. However, I don't know when the factory was built, but Violet Cosh reports that it closed about 1900. So if this was taken at the time it was built then it must be an extremely old photograph. Another reason for doubt is that the brickwork does not match that of the factory which is constructed of brick laced with limestone. A mystery.
