This idyllic scene could have been painted by
Constable. The packhorse bridge at the bottom of Mill
Hill must have seen the troops gather in 'Philips Norton
Lane' for the engagement between the Duke of Monmouth and
Earl of Faversham during the Monmouth Rebellion. As well
as the obvious addition of a concrete walkway where the
cattle once drank, the railings over the bridge have now
been replaced by a stone wall. |

to Matthew Watts, David left his mark by carving his
initials outside the kitchen door! |
